Love, What are you all about?

One day Jesus woke me up and told me to love my enemies. And I was like what. What do you mean I should love my enemies?
Are you crazy. Seriously Lord you can ask me to do all things but to love so and so, that I can't do!!
He was like "Emma, love your enemies" (Matthew 5:44)

Me: Lord it is not possible.

Lord: Everything is possible to all those who believe (Mark 9:23). For what is impossible to man is possible to God.

Me: I don't feel love in my heart for them Lord.

LORD: I understand.
What you don't know is what love really is.

Me: mmmh! What is Love LORD?

LORD: Where do we start?

1. Love is not a feeling.

Me: How is that even possible, they say everywhere that we feel love. And that when you feel like this or that, that's when you know you love or have "fallen in love"!!

LORD: Well don't they say many wrong things my dear.

Love is a choice to commit to being patient and kind. For it is
patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails....
(1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8 NIV)

Me: so you mean I don't have to feel, but I can't control how I feel.

LORD: Yes you can. You can always tell your feelings how to feel and with time they will be obedient to that.

Me: So if I say I love you, it doesn't  matter how i feel, it only matters my actions and my commitment and conviction towards my actions towards you.

LORD: Yes.

Me: What about the feelings I have for my boyfriend?

LORD: Attraction, that is the chemistry, it produces good feelings towards the person. And you will only know if you Love him if he does you wrong and you still choose to be patient and kind and constant with your good actions towards him.

Me: It's complicated.

LORD: Not at all my Emma. You don't have to feel love. You have to choose love. Yes feelings are good, but they are only good as they are good. LOVE IS STILL LOVE WITH OR WITHOUT FEELINGS.

Me: I don't think I can do it all by my own.

LORD: You have me my girl. I have poured my Love into your heart so you can Love others. (Romans 5:5) And if you Love me, you can Love others. And since you already Love yourself then do unto everyone what you want them to do unto you.

Me: I can do all things through you (Phil 4:13) and as hard as it gets, your Grace is sufficient in all my weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9). I love you Lord, teach me to love you more like you love me and love others as I love myself everyday.

LORD: You have asked well.
