My name is TYLER PERRY.

I USED STONES THROWN AT ME TO BUILD MYSELF A PLATFORM. Life will throw you stones, it's your choice to fall by them or use them to build a platform to stand upon.
We all love and sometimes hate rags to riches stories, we love to watch and read about the amazing success, since we want to feel good and tell ourselves how we deserve them too. It's not a bad thing, actually we some how become motivated, it's just blind motivation.
Life will throw you stones, big boulders, heavy weight stones and it is up to you what you do with them. The stones will hurt you and crush you and if you let them they will even kill you, it is all your choice.  I don't want to blindly motivate you, in the talk of Tyler Perry, I want you to assume the life he had before he become rich and famous. I want you to understand and personalize his story as your own and make the best use of it to help you into becoming the best possible you as he becomes the best possible him.
Tyler is someone we can most relate to because of his early life story. Abused by men as a child and bitten by his father, having a strong Christian mother by his side yet filling terrible about his life and attempting suicide at a young age just to escape the torment. Dropping out of high school at age sixteen and working more than 30 jobs in his 20's to make a dream come true which didn't work out for the first 7 years. Honestly I think we all have been here and can relate. No, most of us haven't been through all that but we have had similar feelings of bitterness, anger, failure, disappointment, giving up and so on.
Maybe our story is not as extreme or it is even more harsh, but in one way or the other we have been in our own low, and if you haven't, please get ready, it is coming.  Not that you will have to be poor or attempt suicide but the feeling of being so low, that it seems there is no coming back from it, that is what I am talking about.
All I want as a writer is to use his story to help you build your own platform with whatever stones life is throwing at you. I am writing mostly to young African men and women, mostly because  I know who we are. Some will argue that Tyler lives in. America and so he has a higher rate of success , on the contrary he had a lower rate of success since he is a black man in America according to statistics.
Whatever situation, whoever you are without making any excuses, whatever the stumbling blocks you meet I believe you can use all the stones to build you a platform.

It is that story, a rugs to riches, but it all came at a cost that we will hear in the coming weeks, in our men crush Monday series. I want to motivate you with something real, the pain that comes with the victories.  The disappointments that follow behind every award. The terrible feelings and lonely nights that the smiles of great men never truly tell.
