Keeping Up with the "Social Life " !
I mean honestly. How do you do it? I used to ask people to get to know their next door neighbour, as they live in these things we call apartments.
But push came to shove yesterday, as people gathered in my house for a funeral of my house mate's mama who will be buried in another region.
And as always, I locked myself in. And now, I don't feel bad about it but it has led me to a lot of contemplation.

It was easier for people in farming societies to do so. Since your neighbours are the people you work with in farms and also drink with in local bars. And again back then all people just went to the same church and formed this very close communities. And people had the same level of education and even earning potential. They spoke the same language!
On the other side of the coin, a different time at that, today you work in a global organisation. You meet a gazillion people every day. And you come home late. And you have so much to do that you can barely spare time to eat. How can you spare time to greet your next door neighbour.
You have the group from primary school, high school, book club, women church group, youth church group, university friends and let's not talk about having achieved a number of degrees. It's crazy.

So I quit judging. Do you!!!!! And do you good without forgeting to do good to others whenever possible. Find people who matter in your life. Create a small but intimate social circle. Or depending on your personality, do you. But whatever you do, do it with love, and without fear of what others will think of you.
They say man is not an island. And yes, no one is an island.
Or for my Swahili folks....
"Fimbo ya mbali haiui nyoka" wahenga walisema. I wonder what wahenga would have said if they lived in this modern world. In our modernity, keeping up with the "social life" becomes harder than keeping up with the Kardashians.
How do you manage "social obligation", "me time" and "work time" and most importantly "God time".
I think I need Godly wisdom. And of cause in James 1:5(NKJV) it instructs,

And let's get out of the now days definition of social life which means "social media". Let's get to the real physical life, the people you meet everyday.
How do you keep track of these things?
So why didn't I socialize with funeral attendees. I mean its Africa by the way, it's only in funerals and weddings that you meet people.
Well I have several excuse, not that I want to be justified, no. On the contrary, the Spirit within me has justified me or at least I forgive myself quit easily when I don't do what people"expect" me to do. I am merely thinking out loud.
How do you get a balanced life with work, your personal time, your family, close friends and the the community. I used to wonder why white folks have few people in funerals. And of cause their small social life or at least the habit of not being know in the community within which you live in, may lead to depression as proven by research.
Maybe the real topic is if work today has it's own community and then you have the community within which you live in and of cause there is your friends from all other places you have been in life, and how you manage to be apart of all these!
Shuush. I am trying to keep up with all. I am falling bad, terribly so. So I won't judge no one who fails to do so too. This is life and we all do what we can, sometimes we don't and that is also life. Doing things that make you happy may be a little bit shallow but it is a good indulgence. We all love being happy, sometimes trying so hard to keep up with the social life drains all our happiness away, when we do it out of responsibility and not out of love or the joy to do so.

Please, Do you... at your own expense or seek God and his way and his wisdom nd do him at his expense.
My prayer today Lord is that you help me live like you and manage my social life the way you would. Forgive me because I know I ws wrong in one way or the other yesterday and every day. Give me wisdom to live for you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
